Bryn's Brew Guide: Cafetière

A cafetière (or French press) is a lovely and simple way to brew coffee at home, while bringing out a really rich flavour in your cup. You can experiment with the brew time and customise the coffee to a taste that's just right for you. And cleaning up is always easy! Start with our simple tips for a cafetière coffee that's wonderfully balanced and full of joy...

What you'll need:

  • Cafetière/French Press
  • 15g of ground coffee (choose Cafetière grind)
  • Boiled water
  • Teaspoon
  • Scales (and timer)
  • Your favourite mug

Step 1

Preheat your cafetière with hot water and empty, before adding 15g of coffee. Give your brewer a little shake to flatten the grounds.

Step 2

Add a small amount of freshly boiled water - 50g.

Step 3

Gently stir to saturate the coffee grounds. Then add the lid and let them bloom for 45 seconds.

Step 4

Add another 200g of boiling water. Quickly pop the lid back on to hold in heat.

Step 5

Brew for 4 minutes before stirring the top of the coffee, encouraging any floating grounds to sink.

Step 6

Pop the lid back on again and patiently wait another 2-3 minutes. Then, push the plunger to the surface of the coffee grounds (avoid compressing them as this will add bitterness to your sip).

Step 7

Pour into your favourite mug, leaving a small amount of liquid behind. Find a comfy spot to snuggle and sip!
